My rambling on multiple sites

Hi, guys!

As some of you know, I’m back from Russia. I enjoyed the trip, of course. But, as I’m back, I have too many projects laying in my phone notebook to rest some more. What I’ve been recently wondering about is how WordPress deals with sites displayed under usernames when liking a post.

I’m talking about this. This is what’s displayed when you click on the notification telling you that someone liked one of your posts. A list of the people who liked it is shown and you see something like this:

For some people who have older blogs the name of the older blog is displayed and it’s been bugging me for a long time as it’s nice to know what site the person has and not to be redirected to an old site or even a non-existent one. This problem is for example with Audrey’s account, which displays her older blog, ‘Untitled’, and then you are redirected to a blank site. In Louise’s case, I know she changed her old site so that you are met with a home page redirecting you to your new site. So I wanted to see if you could change that.

What I did is I created another blog called Jowita’s Poses. Yeah, I know. Maybe I will use it someday. Then I got to my profile profile under the address https://wordpress.com/me and changed the primary site to the new one.

You can also change the site displayed in your gravatar profile, which can be accessed if a person clicks on your gravatar being displayed in the post’s likes.

It took WordPress a while to register – I had to wait a couple of minutes and log in and out, but it changed as you can see below.

Then when I got to comments, I realized that when you tried to click on my name, the neverdoitagain site was still displayed. So I got to my Dashboard/Settings/Reading and made the site private (I don’t know if anyone noticed, but I hope no one freaked out, I’m not going anywhere).

Then I went to the comments and what happened surprised me a bit. When I tried to click my avatar in the comments, it still redirected me to the now private site.

Needless to say, WP is super confusing for me, though it might be just another bug or WP not proccessing stuff, so maybe it would work in the end if I kept Jowita’s Poses my primary site for longer. I always have problems changing avatars (they don’t load for a long time) and all that. But, if anyone has been having troubles with your older site being displayed, I at least managed to tell you how to partly fix it. I thought I would share my adventures in case anyone would find WP’s logic as amusing as I did.

Also, as I’ve mentioned, I have many projects, including poses, bonuses, chapters and stuff. I have no idea when, but be ready if I ever manage to make it all work out!

In other news, to those who read the chapter yesterday, I added a link to Lana Del Rey’s cover, which I wanted to add earlier, but forgot, The Other Woman, which pretty much reflects Hailey’s thoughts in this chapter.

Anyway, don’t know if it helped, or I am just making a fool out of myself, but…

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone! ♥

    1. Hopefully it works. I have no idea how to make a non-WordPress site be displayed there, as it doesn’t really seems to be working. WP is super finicky. Kymber made it work and also lachrymosal did, but you know, Kymber is an HTML magician, so…

      1. My website is showing up in WP. But no, so far my new blog isn’t showing as the main. Can just be that it takes time for it to take effect, or it can be that our browsers need to refresh 🙂

  1. I had no idea this was happening! Thank you! I will go in this afternoon and see if I can fix this. You are so sweet to not only let me know but to show me how to hopefully fix it! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

  2. Welcome back!! ❤
Thank you for this information! I never had this issue, probably because I've only ever had this one site, lol – but it's very good to know just in case! 😉

  3. Hope you enjoyed your trip! I’ve noticed this for some blogs and wondered if there was a way to fix it since it takes a bit more navigation to get to their current sites. Perhaps I’ll need it one day as well. Thanks for sharing! 😊

  4. I’ve noticed this, too, when someone follows me because I like to look at the follower’s blog. A lot of times it will say it’s deleted or lead to what looks like an old one, not used anymore. Then, I am left wondering if they still have a blog or not because I’m curious enough to want to have a look. lol

Thanks for bringing this up and showing what you did, Jowita.

  5. Okay – I played around and made my New Beginnings site Primary because the Apocalypse Challenge one was….I also updated my Avi – so hopefully this will work. I posted on the untitled one a link to both of my REAL blogs…. Ugh…

      1. Yes! I am soooo excited! I had no idea I had the other site set as primary. So first I changed that. Then there is a place to put in where to direct people and it has the untitled address. Soooo, I changed that but it automatically put in the https so that was there twice which is why it didn’t work. Thank You! That helps so much and while I was messing around I updated my Avi! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

      2. I’ve noticed it right as you started following me, I also tried to get to your site and had to search by other people’s blogs as you had the other one when I clicked on your nick or through likes.
I’d wanted to mention it before but had no idea if you could actually fix it.
Anyway, if you try to click your nickname in the comments section, you are still redirected to the old site. I really have no idea how to fix this issue.
I’m so glad I could help!

  6. Thanks for helping us navigate the silliness that is WP. I have two blogs, but as far as I know OUaL is my main blog, with One Moore ISBI as a secondary blog.
Now, I am going to have to double check.

  7. I see you have made some changes. I don’t know much about WP settings, so I shouldn’t try to comment that.
You wrote that you will make new poses, write new chapters and bonuses. I can’t wait to see the bonuses. (It’s obvious that chapters are once a week, so don’t even think about me waiting only for the bonuses).
I must see Frank with a scar, you have promised me. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for your work 😉

    1. I have made a few changes, that’s true. My new site is now open 🙂
I can done with poses, now onto the chapters and bonuses. I hope to have a bonus up on Wednesday and show Frank with a scar. I keep my promises to heart 😉
