As some of you know, I’m back from Russia. I enjoyed the trip, of course. But, as I’m back, I have too many projects laying in my phone notebook to rest some more. What I’ve been recently wondering about is how WordPress deals with sites displayed under usernames when liking a post.
I’m talking about this. This is what’s displayed when you click on the notification telling you that someone liked one of your posts. A list of the people who liked it is shown and you see something like this:
For some people who have older blogs the name of the older blog is displayed and it’s been bugging me for a long time as it’s nice to know what site the person has and not to be redirected to an old site or even a non-existent one. This problem is for example with Audrey’s account, which displays her older blog, ‘Untitled’, and then you are redirected to a blank site. In Louise’s case, I know she changed her old site so that you are met with a home page redirecting you to your new site. So I wanted to see if you could change that.
What I did is I created another blog called Jowita’s Poses. Yeah, I know. Maybe I will use it someday. Then I got to my profile profile under the address https://wordpress.com/me and changed the primary site to the new one.
You can also change the site displayed in your gravatar profile, which can be accessed if a person clicks on your gravatar being displayed in the post’s likes.
It took WordPress a while to register – I had to wait a couple of minutes and log in and out, but it changed as you can see below.
Then when I got to comments, I realized that when you tried to click on my name, the neverdoitagain site was still displayed. So I got to my Dashboard/Settings/Reading and made the site private (I don’t know if anyone noticed, but I hope no one freaked out, I’m not going anywhere).
Then I went to the comments and what happened surprised me a bit. When I tried to click my avatar in the comments, it still redirected me to the now private site.
Needless to say, WP is super confusing for me, though it might be just another bug or WP not proccessing stuff, so maybe it would work in the end if I kept Jowita’s Poses my primary site for longer. I always have problems changing avatars (they don’t load for a long time) and all that. But, if anyone has been having troubles with your older site being displayed, I at least managed to tell you how to partly fix it. I thought I would share my adventures in case anyone would find WP’s logic as amusing as I did.
Also, as I’ve mentioned, I have many projects, including poses, bonuses, chapters and stuff. I have no idea when, but be ready if I ever manage to make it all work out!
In other news, to those who read the chapter yesterday, I added a link to Lana Del Rey’s cover, which I wanted to add earlier, but forgot, The Other Woman, which pretty much reflects Hailey’s thoughts in this chapter.
Anyway, don’t know if it helped, or I am just making a fool out of myself, but…
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone! ♥
